2007 NPMA Conference

Each year the NPMA awards the Richard N. Miller Scholarship. Eligible students must be high school seniors who will enroll in an accredited college or university within 16 months of graduation. The selected student for 2008 will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The runner-up receives a $500 scholarship.The applicant must be a child, stepchild or legally adopted child of a full-time employee of an NPMA member organization. This includes any company whose business involves publishing newspapers, magazines, books or other periodicals and that sustains a regular membership to the NPMA. Included are its headquarters, service centers and corporate supply companies.

Applications must be completed and postmarked no later than March 31, 2008 during the applicant’s senior year of high school. Applications are available online! Additional details are below. Mail applications to:

AMOUNT
The amount and number of scholarships given each year are determined by the NPMA Board of Directors at the Fall Board Meeting. In most years, the scholarship will be awarded as follows: $1,000 to the first place winner and $500 to the runner-up. The winner(s) are announced each year at the NPMA Conference.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
A high school senior who will enroll in an accredited college or university within sixteen months of graduation. The applicant must be a child, step-child or legally adopted child of a full-time employee of an NPMA organization. An NPMA member organization is defined as either an individual newspaper, a corporate newspaper supply group, or a corporate headquarters of a newspaper group which holds an individual membership.

REQUIREMENTS
The applicants will be judged on the following basis:

  • Grade point average and Scholastic Aptitude Test or American Collegiate Test results.
  • Participation in high school activities.
  • Participation in community activities.
  • Recommendation letter from high school principal or counselor.


APPLICATION DEADLINE
Applications must be postmarked no later than April 30 in applicant's senior year of high school.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
Complete the application in detail, attach transcript of grades for all high school years, appropriate SAT or ACT scores and recommendation letter from your principal or counselor. Mail this documentation to the NPMA Scholarship Director's address shown on the front of the application.

Applications can be obtained from the Purchasing department of NPMA member organizations.
